Pepsi pulls Kendall Jenner ad after receiving severe backlash. In case you haven’t seen it yet, the commercial shows a peaceful protest going on while Jenner watches from a photo shoot. A minority gives her ‘the eye’ to join which causes her to remove her blonde wig and flick it to THE ONLY BLACK WOMAN IN THE COMMERCIAL and join the protest. But not only that, she passes through everyone to hand a doggone police officer a Pepsi. Which makes it seem that she ended racism and white privilege with a doggone Pepsi. I can’t. Viewers of the Pepsi commercial felt the beverage brand exploited the Black Lives Matter movement. Heck, I feel like people do that everyday.
At first, Pepsi boasted about their commercial. Well, before its release. The brand told Adweek, ““This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”
Yeah, a spirit of harmony to what, drink a can of soda that has over 60 carbs? Of course they were spinning a different tune after the commercial was released and people began tweeting comments like, “Kendall Jenner ended police brutality with a Pepsi. so if a cop tries to beat or kill you hand them a Pepsi asap!” and “Wow, how tone deaf is that new Kendall Jenner Pepsi Ad?? For someone with two mamas I’d expect her to know better…”
Now, that’s funny. Today, Pepsi has issued a statement, apologizing for their insensitivity saying:
“Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
You apologize for Kendall Jenner? For what?! She knew what she was signing up for. She just wanted that check! Hopefully they fired the employees who created and signed off on this idiotic idea.
