Lebron James is annoying me right now. Not only do I dislike him as a basketball player, but now he wants to get his feet wet and remake one of my favorite movies that needs to remain untouched. House Party.
The Hollywood Reporter says the NBA player will produce the movie while FX’s Atlanta actors, Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori will write the script. House Party is one of those films that need to be left alone. Today’s generation does not need a Kid N’ Play. Every week some millenial is creating a different dance move, hoping it goes viral. Meanwhile, Kid N’ Play’s one choreography was so iconic that I performed it at my senior prom.
This is obviously a rich man move. Lebron James has money to throw away. He probably thought of this idea while sitting on the toilet. Does he really need to appeal to millenials that badly? I’m sure Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori are fantastic screenwriters but I’m already boycotting this movie and it hasn’t even been written yet. James said,
This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie.
Okay, if it’s not a reboot then why even name it House Party? This idea ticks me off because this movie was very loved when I was a teenager in the ’90s. Black girls wanted to dress like Sydney and Sharane; who came in all hues of chocolate.
The dance moves still live on today. We have the late great Robin Harris as Kid’s father, John Witherspoon as the nosey neighbor and yes, Martin Lawrence. And lets not forget that sugar scene.
Am I alone on this? Are there any other Xennialls out there who don’t want to see a House Party remake?
