Movies Anywhere is the newest streaming service that may do some major damage to Hulu and Netflix. Details inside.
In a nutshell, Movies Anywhere allows you to watch content from Amazon, Google Play, iTunes and Vudu in one place. Being able to watch movies from multiple platforms on one app is amazing because I can’t tell you how many times I switch over to Netflix or Amazon because one offers something the other doesn’t.
Using the Movies Anywhere app, which is free, now allows me to watch three episodes of Roseanne and then Girls Trip without changing apps!
The app works on iOS, Android devices, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast and Roku devices. Roku, oh shoot! Aside from this service being FREE, it’s also viewable on your desktop, which is great when you’re at a coffee shop and would rather use a 17″ screen than a 7″.
CNet reports that Movies Anywhere will offer film options from Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios (including titles from Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm), Twentieth Century Fox Film, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Walt Disney Studios senior vice president, Karin Gilford, calls the app a “a virtual one-stop movie-watching shop.” This may be awesome and all, but be it that Netflix and Hulu are still two of the largest streaming apps around, I don’t think it’s going to make a dent in their finances. I will not be ridding either of my subscriptions. Heck, not after Hulu added Boy Meets World.
